Aphrodite today

The exhibition “Aphrodite today” is an initiative of the Association of Czech Graphic Artists HOLLAR and the Center for Classical Studies, Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences. It includes more than fifty works by twenty-two contemporary printmakers and explores the perception of the ancient goddess of love in contemporary Czech art. Through the multiple approaches to the subject of Aphrodite, the exhibition contributes to the current discussions about the position of women in contemporary society and its reflection in artmaking.

The exhibition is presented in the context of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union. It is a collaboration of the G. Gounaropoulos Museum with the Czech Center of Athens and is produced under the auspices of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Athens.
