{"id":1865,"date":"2019-10-07T09:29:58","date_gmt":"2019-10-07T06:29:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gounaropoulos.gr\/?post_type=artworks&#038;p=1865"},"modified":"2023-04-11T13:28:55","modified_gmt":"2023-04-11T10:28:55","slug":"still-life","status":"publish","type":"artworks","link":"https:\/\/gounaropoulos.gr\/en\/artworks\/still-life\/","title":{"rendered":"Still life"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Despite their earthly themes, Gounaropoulos\u2019s translucent and airy still lifes seem to resist the law of gravity and are part of the artist&#8217;s enigmatic painting universe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1934\u2019s <em>Still life <\/em>depicts a female bust reminiscent of ancient Greek sculpture, surrounded by fruit on an undefined surface. The curvilinear form in the upper left corner may be perceived as a pulled curtain. The diagonal axis, created by the inclination of the sculpture to the right, leads the viewer\u2019s gaze to the background, where a blue landscape is visible. Blue light also underlines the small houses in the upper right side, as well as the bust itself.
