The exhibition presents the two mural projects painted by the artist G. Gounaro: the mural in the Council Chamber of the Athens City Hall and the religious paintings in the church of Hagia Triada (Holy Trinity) in Volos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The painting in the\nAthens City Council covers 112m\u00b2. It was created in the late 1930s and depicts\nthe history of Athens\nfrom ancient to modern times. The work is presented for the first time in\nrelation to the artist\u2019s preparatory drawings, on loan from the Municipal\nGallery of Athens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The murals in the Hagia Triada church date from the early 1950s and represent the only example of a Greek church painted in modern style. The recent restoration of the murals has highlighted the poetic and spiritual qualities of the compositions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
