Gounaropoulos’s Idylls exude a lyrical quality and an idealized eroticism. In the various versions of this theme, the airy figures of the lovers, tenderly embracing each other, exchange glances of love in a translucent, almost immaterial universe.
The artist uses masterful continuous-line strokes, with harmonious interchanges of intensity and rhythm, so that the lines become bearers and conveyors of the couple’s emotions.
