Lecture and concert dedicated to the wife of Giorgos Gounaropoulos, Marika Gounaropoulou, nee Proiou.
A collaboration of the G. Gounaropoulos Museum with the Music Library of Greece “Lilian Voudouri”, The Friends of Music Society and the Department of Music Studies, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
Myrto Economides (Musicologist – Conservator of Archival Material, Music Library of Greece “Lilian Voudouri”, The Friends of Music Society) presented hitherto unknown facts about the life and work of the musician and composer Marika Gounaropoulou, while Magdalini Kalopana (Musicologist, PhD., Laboratory Teaching Staff, Department of Music Studies, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens) curated a musical program presenting three works for solo piano and eight songs for voice and piano composed by Marika Gounaropoulou from the 1920s to the 1940s. Many of the songs’ lyrics are poems by Greek poets, such as Zacharias Papantoniou and Dora Moatsou-Varnalis.
The works were performed by students of the Department of Music Studies, NKUA.
