This poetic title, borrowed from Andreas Embiricos’s poetry collection of the same name (1934. Prehistory or Origin, Agra Publications, 2014), was the inspiration for a contemporary art exhibition on the theme of origins, the background on which the elements of each of our characters and personalities are founded. We all know our personal history, but how much do we know about our pre-history and origins? The self we strive to understand better, to develop, or even to reconcile with is the result of thousands of factors, most of which are unknown to us or lie dormant in our subconscious and unconscious. The works presented in the exhibition highlight some of these factors and invite us to approach them either in an introspective way and/or in the spirit of a broader exploration.
