An exhibition by the Greek Printmakers’ Association

The works of the exhibition titled “To Mikis Theodorakis” were created on the occasion of the exhibition “I Held My Life…” that was first presented at the Municipal Art Gallery of Heraklion – Basilica of Saint Mark in Crete, in July 2025. The exhibition was organized upon the invitation of members of the Greek Printmakers’ Association to participate in the wider exhibition event entitled “100 YEARS OF MIKIS THEODORAKIS, THE CRETAN ECUMENICAL GREEK,” an original concept by Fotini Kokolaki, organized by the Polyprisma Company with the support of the Friends of Mikis Theodorakis Association, the Region of Crete, and the Municipality of Heraklion.

Following this first successful presentation, the printmaking works of the members of the Greek Printmakers’ Association and the invited artists, are presented independently in a touring exhibition titled “To Mikis Theodorakis” at the “Aristotelis” Εducational Association in Florina, and now hosted at the G. Gounaropoulos Museum.

As the artists write in the catalogue “The exhibition pays tribute to the extraordinary man, musician, and revolutionary Mikis Theodorakis, whose spirit continues to be a source of inspiration throughout our lives. Through his music – transmuting words into emotion – he brought us closer to poetry and opened pathways for reflection, joy, and love. Much has been written and said about him, but what resonates most is what lives in our hearts and memories, sparking the continuation of his legacy in our lives”.

The tribute opens with a monumental engraving by Vasso Katraki (1909-1988) and includes works by members of the Greek Printmakers’ Association, as well as some invited artists.
